In Honor of St. Patrick’s Day – A Limerick for Parents

It’s now a well-known fact
That how we as parents act
What we do, what we say
To our kids every day
Has a very strong impact.

Using power is a way
To get kids to obey
But they might become shy
Or will lie to get by
Not good at the end of the day.

There’s “peace at any price”
And always being too nice
Letting the child win
By usually giving in
Is also quite bad advice.

Here’s the very best news
Six steps that parents can use
And that’s Method III
It’s not you or me
The solution we reach is no lose.

To raise children to be caring and kind
Who know how to speak their mind
Takes commitment and will
And lots of practice and skill
The effort is well worth it, you’ll find.
