5 Things That Set L.E.T. Apart from Other Leadership Programs

leader effectiveness training leadership programsThe choices available to organizational decision makers are many. It is no longer the case that only a few training companies control the market. We certainly acknowledge that there are many excellent products available. It is our responsibility to be clear about how L.E.T. is different from the others. The following factors explain what I believe to be the most important differences that set L.E.T. apart from its competition.

Scientific Basis

Leader Effectiveness Training

L.E.T. is solid. It is thoroughly grounded in the fundamental principles of the behavioral sciences. It does not rely on gimmicks. The skills taught in L.E.T. are clearly a product of the most reliable and respected research on human behavior. These skills work. We know they work.

Other Leadership Training

Many programs sacrifice quality for “newness” or “razzle-dazzle.” There is a lot of guesswork and speculation in many programs. Some programs include a great deal of “new age” thinking that has little evidence to support its effectiveness.

Practice

Leader Effectiveness Training

L.E.T. recognizes that the acquisition of new skills requires practice. No amount of talk will teach you a skill. People must perform new behaviors in order to learn them. L.E.T. provides sufficient practice time in the classroom for participants to build enough confidence to put the skills to use.

Other Leadership Training

Many training programs talk about how much content they can fit into a single program. While it is easy to talk about a lot of things, it is far more difficult to learn skills well enough to put them into practice. Some programs gloss over topics that are extremely difficult to master.

Completeness

Leader Effectiveness Training

L.E.T. presents a model that is a system of behaviors that allows the participant to apply the skills to an extremely wide
variety of situations and people. The model shows participants when to use which skill (and when not to) and how to use each skill in combination with other skills.

Other Leadership Training

Many programs teach some of these skills. Learning only a part of the model will leave the participant vulnerable to many possible unpleasant consequences. One cannot truly maximize the effectiveness of any of the skills unless they know all of the skills.

Practicality

Leader Effectiveness Training

L.E.T. teaches a simple, elegant model that does not require the user to be schooled in psychology or sociology. The participants do not need to “analyze” other people. The participant need only pay attention to the present situation and accept responsibility for using the skills him/herself.

Other Leadership Training

Many programs offer insights into human behavior that are certainly useful or interesting but limited in their practicality. If a participant is required to know another’s “type” or “style,” the range of application is limited to those for whom this information is available.

Accountability

Leader Effectiveness Training

The model allows the participant to be totally accountable for their own behavior. The “others” are not required
to know the skills in order for the participant to make them work. The skills work with coworkers, leaders, team members, friends and family (including children).

Other Leadership Training

Some training programs offer insights and skills that may work for a team whose members are all trained in a certain process but have little value for an individual leader (or team member) who wants to practice the skills on their own.
